Geek Trends: Extraordinary Sliders & Ribbons

One of Web designer’s major challenge is to improve content exposure without compromising intuitive models and layouts. We see and experience many new features applied to sites everyday, we present you today “21 sites with extraordinary and well styled ribbons”, from well know sites to new vanguard pioneers taking design to the next level.

1. 45 Royale, web stars, lol… a web design studio that create works for several cool sites and blogs.

2. Asylum, one of the best sources in the web to find off topic information and some of the most crazy things in the world… the whole site is an incredible work of art regarding navigational features.

4. C Net, one of the most visited sites in the world continue delivering news in very smart ways.

5. CNN, after the latest redesign has shown once again why continue been one of the leaders and most reliable source of news

6. Coda, we just can’t get enough of CODA… it’s has been featured in pretty much all the relevant blogs, directories and anything related to web design. Did created such an incredible buzz that even there is a jQuery script to recreate the slide effect check the coda slider jQuery and see if you want to add some functionality to your site navigation, or for easy results check the Wordpress Coda Theme.

7. Dirty Coast, good site for cool t-shirts.

9. Joost, very impressive the maximization of all featured and relevant items above the fold, too bad that their system has so many bugs and such a limited selection of shows, lets see what Joost could bring next.

10. Lake Crack, because: “a picture is worth a thousand words”…

11. mashable, it was about time that Pete Cashmore decided to make some changes to that old boring design, bringing sexy back is not an easy job for a well branded blog but Pete you have done it!

12. Nile Inside, the site itself is a long ribbon, the fold exist still it’s just less notable.

13. nYq Studio, a symple way to show a few featured items

14. New York Times, yet another news site, this emphasize on how important is to expose information.

15. O’Neil, another simple way to feature more than one item before the fold.

16. Sound Provisions, I’m not the biggest fan of flash and with that been said this site is a well presentation of products in one single page.

17. The Horizontal Way, once again a ribbon like design for blog powered by wordpress.

18. Tree Hugger, well who doesn’t like tree hugger, lets all join the ways of sustainability… not a typical ribbon almost a little big to be one but worth to mention it.

19. VCU, education at glance, yet a more simplistic featured photo slide.

20. Vimeo, yummy… eye candy and more, one of those site that theres is always something new to discover Street Dance.

21. You Love Us, glad to see designers taking risks on presenting their identity in non conventional ways, well done!
