Real value is matter of perception. With some research we can enjoy discovering and creating great content. Today I’m sharing with you folks what in my opinion is a misinterpretation of the truly essence of the web designer, how we all fall victims and perpetrators at some point or another, and what to do to keep our selves sexy.
It’s a blogosphere favorite for good reason “list” content works
Brian Clark – Copy Blogger
As a web designer I got challenged everyday to many different tasks, and many of them are related to productivity not inspiration, many projects that we develop are dictated by its needs and not to our orientation towards art. And the question popped in my mind: why we find over and over again extraordinary long blog posts featuring interminable lists for inspiration? There are ways to create interesting lists with real value, please read this amazing posts by Muhammad Saleem on creating lists or to go even further read this for a better understanding why Lists are so effective when comes to traffic.
I include my self in adopting this behavior at moments, why? most of the time we base titles on trends. I have taken a long year break from blogging to redefine my self as a web design blogger. Since then not much have changed in the community, other than an alarming increment of titles with these tendencies that are showing up in my google reader. please check SEOmozBlog article for a better understanding on how to create killer titles without been so predictable.
Experiences, and real day to day solution are not be found in many blogs anymore. However not all is lost, sometimes the information can be presented as a more polished version with further research and collective mind, however when a blog is run by one person is hard to be objective and determined to the topic, then we have to morph in a greater being… we become editors, but to do that is not easy, please read the guidelines by The American Society of Magazine Editors if you are planing on creating more editorials with integrity.
The massive quantity of posts that sometimes we need to generate revenue can definitely hurt the quality of the content it self, a good idea is to invite fellow bloggers to write guests post, this can bring important inside and knowledge to any blog specially when guests writers are well experienced web designers that can bring greater knowledge. (Not link to wisdom here) As a web designer, my main revenue is the web design service that I provide. Popupon serves as a platform to keep my identity fresh (professional), connect with the fellow web designers (community), let my voice be heard (content), designing (art direction), and networking (social). So I’m very committed when comes to present information here and balance my revenue model, however everyone’s model is different, but remember to balance that equation.
Some resourceful blogs are taking the lead on changing the old ways and offer options for web designers in search of information: tutorials, articles, editorials, art direction and real opinions that are very important specially in our industry. You can see some of who I really trust as reader if I’m looking for solutions and inspiration http://popupon.com/2009/11/2009-web-design-tribute/ Get real tips on how to become a better blogger when comes to content, here are some great sources: Copy Blogger and beyond Zen Habits.
